Tap

Starters Tap Dance – Thursday 18.15-19.15

Our tap class for beginners is for all adult ages, and is our introductory class to tap dancing.

This class is suitable for all ages, and is a class for those who have done some tap before and is want to do a mixed style tap class. This is a good option if you want to do a class for fitness benefits.

Carolyn always keeps it fun and enjoyable, choosing a wide range of popular music from all decades as well as sticking with tap tradition by dancing to the swing standards from the 40’s and 50’s.

Advanced Tap Dance – Monday 19.30-20.30

This class has been running for over 20 years and is a lower impact American style tap class (ideal for those who prefer to be keeping their feet on the ground rather than jumping and springing, however, springing options are there for those who wish to). The combinations can be intricate at times or simple at others for a brain rest.  At all times doing great dances to enjoyable music.

Fun fact: One of our original members enjoys it so much she has now been dancing with us for 29 years!

Ballet

Improvers Ballet – Thursday 19.15-20.15

Our Thursday ballet class is for all ages and is suitable for those who have done ballet before. In the class we follow the traditional ballet class format of barre technique, centre work (to include centre practise, adage, and allegro), and then onto dances.

Movers & Groovers

Movers and Groovers – Thursday 10.30-11.15

This is a low impact movement and dance class for those who want to dance

with no impact, using dance as a fun way to exercise whilst being very kind and gentle to the body. Ideal for those who do not want to be jumping around.

In this class we incorporate lots of routines in a huge variety of styles to fun music that everyone loves (pop from all eras, jazz, Latin jazz, musical theatre, to name but a few).

Parent / Student Testimonials

  • Art House is a really special place. My son learned there — ballet and jazz — for seven years; not only did he become a good dancer, but he found such confidence in himself. He decided he wanted to dance as part of his career: he’s now at Guildford School of Acting.

  • My daughter has been taught by Carolyn at Art House Theatre and Dance for over 4 years. Carolyn is enthusiastic, supportive and has a true love of dance which really shines through in her teaching. Thanks to Carolyn, my daughter has grown enormously, in both ability and confidence.

  • Carolyn’s teaching of my sons over the last 8 years has been fantastic, progressing them from beginners to getting distinctions at Intermediate level for ballet and tap. Most importantly her lessons are great fun, and they look forwards to going each week. I thoroughly recommend Art House Theatre and Dance.

  • A few years ago, I started Adult Ballet classes and found such joy in it, that I now regret not having done ballet all my life! I now also do Adult Tap. Both classes are a great brain workout as well as a physical one, but Carolyn creates an atmosphere that is friendly and relaxed, not about worrying about getting everything right but enjoying what your body can do. Absolutely life-changing. Highly recommended.

  • The Arthouse has been a major part of my daughters’ childhoods from aged 3 to 18. It is a fun, inclusive and safe place to be, where kids can learn to dance and perform, socialise with friends and build their self-confidence. Carolyn is a super dance teacher and a great support with lots of experience that the kids can benefit from. My daughters love it.
